(Austin Texas) The xTexas Trail Association will host the RxTx (pronounced RexTex) inaugural ultra endurance cycling race in early January 2027. The Grand Depart will happen 1/3/27 on the Louisiana border at the southern end of the Toledo Bend Reservoir. The race will follow the full 1,500-mile xTexas Trail route rambling through the heart of rural Texas over a two-week period. The inaugural Grand Depart will be limited to around 30 riders. Applications will go live in early October.
The brainchild of xTexas Trail Association board member Tyler Reynolds, the goal of the race is twofold:
1) Find the person who can traverse all 1,500+ miles of diverse xTx Trail terrain in the fastest time over a two-week period.
2) Capture the story of the riders and raise awareness of the xTx, this legacy trail project that crosses the heart of rural Texas with regular video updates and a documentary film.
Race Director Tyler Reynolds is a US Coast Guard veteran, and Market Lead of 5 Trek bicycle stores in Houston. He’s also the only person to complete all three sections of Texas Showdown endurance cycling race series on a singlespeed bike in one calendar year. In 2025, with an overall time of 4 days, 5 hours, and 59 minutes, he came in 2nd for the Eastern section, and 1st for both the Central and Western sections.
Reynolds has recruited a talented, passionate creative team to help tell the story of the race including Patrick Farnsworth of the Texas Showdown Series and the Bikes or Death Podcast; Filmmaker Gregg Dunham of Sandstone Pictures, and Aaron Arnzen & Monica Foltz of Mixed Soil Media.
Capturing the story of the inaugural RxTx is being made possible by the generosity of Old Man Mountain, the creators of premium racks, mounting solutions, bags and a growing list of solutions for bikepacking and endurance racing.
Reynolds, xTx Trail founder Charlie Gandy, and the creative team and partners will be available to interview prior to the race. Further, excellent images and video will be made available as on the RxTx web page when it launches in early October.
