Bikepacking the xTx Draft route.

A report about True Grit!

In the spring of 2025 super volunteer and fifth generation Texan Rhea Wallace rode his bike 1,200 miles across Texas to ground proof the initial xTx draft route from a cycling perspective.

He completed the last 300 miles in the fall accompanied by xTx founder Charlie Gandy.

Download and read Rhea’s full 32-page report below. It’s full of important on-the-scene observations (including stunning photos) and wise counsel from a seasoned bike packer who knows how to prepare for this time of long distance journey.

Note: Certain sections of the route have changed since Rhea first road the trail. You can find the latest information about the full route here.

The xTexas Trail is a seasonal trail designed for adventuring on during the late fall, winter, and early spring. Travel at your own risk.
